About Steven

Steven Rousell is an author and correction officer with twelve years of experience working inside the world of corrections.

His life outside the walls is rooted in the North Country—family, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, farm life, and the places that continually find their way into his stories.

Those two worlds—the life inside the gates and the life waiting beyond them—shape the perspective he brings to his writing.

The Officer

Behind the Walls

Years spent in corrections showed Steven a world most people never see. Correction officers witness violence, tragedy, fear, humor, friendship, loss, and moments of humanity that rarely make it beyond the gates.

And when their shift ends, they don't always leave all of it behind.

The Story That Started It All

From the Tower
to the Cross

Steven's first book began with a story that people often found difficult to believe was real—a story of addiction, consequences, family, faith, redemption, and second chances.

The events behind that story changed his life and changed the way he looked at it. After finishing the book, Steven realized there was more he wanted to say.

The Author

More Than Prisons

Through his novels, Steven writes about the people underneath the uniform—the officers, husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, children, friends, and families who live with the effects of a profession that can quietly change the people who work within it.

His stories aren't only about prisons. They are about people, consequences, faith, family, second chances, and what can happen after the hardest chapters of a life.

It's More Than Prisons

“They're about what people carry home with them.”

Beyond the Walls

The North Country

When Steven isn't writing, life returns to the things that keep him grounded—family, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, farm life, and the North Country he calls home.

Those places provide balance, perspective, and a reminder that there is always more to a person than the hardest thing they have lived through.
